The key to an outfit remaining both functional and fashionable during changing seasons and unpredictable weather is simple; layers are essential. You don’t have to worry about putting away your favorite jeans or sweaters, as long as you utilize the power of wearing layers. When I spotted this Fashionista wearing a pair of on-trend colored jeans paired with a light button-down and jacket, I loved her outfit immediately. A darker, fall/winter color like oxblood is balanced out by airy, spring colors like khaki and white. Her outfit is the perfect example of how to transition an outfit between seasons and layer lighter pieces to adapt to the ever-changing weather.
Name: Hanna Song
Major: Social Science
CollegeFashionista: What is your favorite part of getting dressed or putting an outfit together?
Hanna Song: I love rediscovering old items and being able to make new outfits with them.
CF: What is your favorite item to wear in your wardrobe?
HS: My heeled boots because they make my little Asian legs a bit longer. Plus, they’re so comfortable!
CF: How does your style change between seasons?
HS: I feel like it doesn’t change too much, other than the layering of course. I love to have a little bit of color in all my outfits even if it’s winter, but I guess I tend to add even more colors in the summer.
CF: What are your favorite places to shop?
HS: I love shopping in Korea! They have perfect sizes and such good prices. I think Seoul is the best-dressed city I have ever been to. I would say Zara is probably the equivalent of Korean fashion.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s look, invest in pieces that are perfect for layering. This neutral short cape jacket from Zara would be perfect for layering on top of a spring, floral dress. This floral dress from ASOS would be adorable under a neutral jacket. Add a pair of heeled boots and some accessories and the outfit would be perfect for a variety of seasons.
