The weather in Michigan this winter has certainly been a challenge. Mother Nature has been teasing us with a warm day or two amongst a week of close to subzero temperatures. So what do you turn to on a sunny, forty degree day? Vests. They have become incredibly popular this season, with the climates shifting back and forth. What I love most about vests is how versatile they are. You can simply wear them over a hoodie, or you can dress them up like this Fashionista did. Wearing the vest open gives the perfect opportunity to play around with accessories. I admired this Fashionista’s use of jewelry to dress up her otherwise simple outfit. The plain white shirt and army green pants looked great together, but the accessories really made the outfit pop. I loved the use of the rosary, it caught my attention right away.

CollegeFashionista: In the outfit you’re wearing, you have on lots of accessories. What do you consider a must have accessory for your collection?
Haley Linville: A Michael Kors watch and a Tiffany’s necklace.
CF: Has this winter affected how you dress for class? How so?
HL: Yes! The weather makes me not want to get up and dress nice for class. Also, it has caused me to choose darker shades of clothing.
CF: If you were given a million dollar shopping spree, what would be the first thing that you’d buy?
HL: A Louis Vuitton purse, for sure!
CF: What are you most looking forward to next season, fashion wise?
HL: I am looking forward to bright colors and not having to wear my long jacket everyday.
How To: As I mentioned above, wearing an unzipped vest is the perfect opportunity to play around with different jewelry looks. It’s most likely what someone will notice first about your outfit. My favorite jewelry trend right now is the layered look. You’re already layering an outfit to begin with by wearing a vest, try exposing different lengths of chain necklaces to turn heads even more.
