Fashionista Spotlight

It’s been a gloomy few days here at U of Windsor in Canada—nothing but snow, snow and more snow. I know that I, for one, am ready for some sunshine! I find that it’s so easy to let the darkness of stormy days translate into a wardrobe. This is why nothing catches my eye more than a great color and print on a dusky day like this and that is exactly what this Fashionista did when I spotted her outside of our student center.

Name: Franceline Nkingu

Major: Communication, Media and Film

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?

Franceline Nkingu: Today I decided to wear a lightweight cardigan. I’m not always one for bright colors but when I wear them, I’m sure to make them pop! This cardigan is one of my favorites. Its tribal style is crazy, fun, outgoing and not to mention only cost me five pounds at Primark. I went with a neutral tank on the inside from Forever 21. These high-rise jeans were surprisingly cheap at one of my favorite places to shop—Urban Outfitters. My combat, military style boots were purchased on GoJane and have become a staple in my collection of boots. Lastly, my favorite piece of this whole outfit is the belt! It’s undeniably one of my most complimented wardrobe pieces. It was affordable and makes any simple outfit go from basic to fashionable! I purchased it at Value Village for seven dollars.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

FN: For the most part I have a pretty basic style. Anything that is ’80s, retro, fun, or simply chic. I go for simplicity because too much at times becomes overwhelming. I like having fun with what I wear and my personality is reflected in my outfits to a tee.

CF: What are your favorite colors and prints to incorporate into your wardrobe?

FN: I usually opt for neutral shades like grays, dark reds, green, gold, browns and a bit of bright colors but never too much. As for prints, I typically go for tribal, stripes and graphic T-shirts!

CF: If you could wear only one type of shoe for the rest of your life, which would you pick?

FN: Well, no doubt that’s a hard bargain. I mean, you need a shoe for every event or occasion in your life. However, if I had to pick something that goes well with just about anything, I would go for the low rise Chuck Taylors in white! That’s my go-to shoe. They’re simple, clean and laid-back!
