This Fashionista adds an African flair to numerous outfits she wears. Fennella pays homage to her heritage with her style. She is dressed in eye-catching black and white floral heels and a traditional Kente cloth print head wrap that adds a pop of color. This Fashionista is known around campus for being voted “Best Dressed Female” at the Freshman Awards Show last year. She has her own blog and online store featuring the purse and anklets pictured here. She only sells items she would wear herself. This Fashionista’s style is certainly bold and unique to our beloved Spelman College campus.
Name: Fennella Miller
Major: English with a minor in Spanish
CollegeFashionista: Where do you usually shop?
Fennella Miller: I have mastered the art of thrifting. I even have a thrift store membership card for some of the thrift stores in my home area and I am so resourceful that I only tend to go to thrift stores when they are having a 25-50 percent off sale for more bargains.
CF: Who or what inspires your style?
FM: What I love inspires my style. I’ve always had style. I remember being made fun of even bullied for not matching. I never got the point. I was the kid who wore mismatched shoe strings. I’ve never been the one to go by trends. “Fashion fades, style is eternal.”
CF: What is a staple item of your wardrobe?
FM: A nice, crisp, clean white T-shirt. A Fashionista can do no wrong with this.
CF: What are you excited to wear this season?
FM: I am so excited to wear my fur coat as much as I can before it gets warm. It adds a touch of class to any outfit and it looks so regal!
CF: If you had to cut down your wardrobe to ten items, what would they be?
FM: 1) A white T-shirt 2) High-waisted skinny jeans 3) Black leggings 4) Black pumps 5) Fur coat 6) Black dress 7) Louis Vuitton bag 8) Louis Vuitton belt 9) Betsy Johnson bag 10) Kenyan Masai necklace
How To: To simulate this Fashionista’s look try a black long sleeve shirt paired with black nylon high-waisted leggings. A similar Kente cloth head wrap can be found here. Break up the black with a lime green belt with gold trim to match the green of the Rubix Cube tote. For jewelry add a gold choker collar necklace and two gold anklets to match Fennella’s. Last, but certainly not least, the chunky white and black floral heels from Forever 21 no longer sold are similar to this black and white polka-dot wedge with a strap.
