This spring break I headed back to the East Coast to spend time with friends and family in my favorite cities. While I’ve grown to love the grungy Seattle style, there’s no denying that Boston and New York are full of trendsetters. While shopping in SoHo, I spotted this Fashionista on the city streets. I adored her effortless and fashion-forward look. I especially loved the small details within her outfit — the oversized bow and the gold buckles on her coat. It was the perfect look for these chilly days before spring takes over. I was excited to learn that this Fashionista is currently interning at Opening Ceremony NY and is constantly inspired by the fast-paced NYC lifestyle.
Name: Ezgi Eren
Year: Graduate Student
CollegeFashionista: I love your outfit! What are you wearing today?
Ezgi Eren: Thanks! I’m wearing an American Apparel skirt and bow, an H&M coat and vintage boots.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
EE: Well, perhaps my style is a bit all over the place. Since I have to get ready quickly each morning, I like to dress pretty simply, but I always like something to pop, whether it’s an accessory or a color or a pattern—something unique.
CF: What trends are you loving right now?
EE: Oh, definitely long maxi skirts with slits. I can’t wait to invest in one for the spring.
CF: How would you say living in New York City affects your style?
EE: It definitely makes me more of a risk taker when it comes to clothes. It hasn’t necessarily changed my style, but it’s inspired me to not be afraid of more out there items.
CF: You mentioned earlier that you’re currently interning at Opening Ceremony here in the city. How has it been?
EE: It has been very educational! For me, I work on the marketing side and I’m constantly surrounded by creative and inspiring people in the fashion industry. And, if I’m lucky, I get to attend certain fashion events.
CF: That’s awesome. One last question: Who is your style icon?
EE: I love Alexa Chung and Leandra Medine. They both have very unique styles.
How To: To rock a similar look, check out this peacoat from Zara. A black coat for fall and winter is essential. A special accessory like this Fashionista’s bow is a great way to add something a little unique to any outfit. American Apparel has a variety of awesome colors to choose from.
