Marist College is known for its exceptional Fashion program that really has reached new heights in the past couple of years. The program has become very competitive in the years, and to be a part of such a distinguished program is a great honor. Being a part of the fashion school, opens up many doors not only for me but many other Fashionista/os. This week’s FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT is a rising star in the fashion program and always dresses to impress.
Name: Emily Kalmes
Major: Fashion Merchandising
CollegeFashionista: What are your Fashionista essentials?
Emily Kalmes: My Fashionista essentials are unique accessories and a great pair of jeans. It’s really fun to put your personal flare into classic looks!
CF: What made you decide to study fashion merchandising at Marist?
EK: Fashion has always been my main avenue of self expression and it is something that I have always wanted to pursue. When I came to Marist I fell in love with the campus and the fabulous opportunities that the Fashion Merchandising program has to offer!
CF: Who do you look to for fashion advice?
EK: If I am in need of fashion advice I turn to my closest friends, but I also think that it is important to not read too much into what other people think. I believe that you should take the fashion risks that you want to take!
CF: It is easy to want to drop big bucks on clothing. What is your advice about being a Fashionista with out breaking the bank?
EK: Being fashionable doesn’t have to mean emptying your bank account. When shopping on a budget I think it is important to focus a little more on classic staples that you will always love than trendy items that you won’t want to wear for seasons to come.
How To: The standout piece of the outfit is the pink blouse with black polka-dots. Make a statement by wearing this bold print for the winter season. Add the finishing touches to your outfit with some eclectic accessories. Remember, whether it’s bracelets, necklaces, or earrings, accessories definitely add a pop of flare to any outfit!
