During the summer, I was all about colorful dresses and breezy skirts, but with September creeping by, I sometimes worry that the time left to wear my summer frocks is dwindling. I have learned, however, that there are some easy changes we can make to a look that can bring one of our favorite summer styles into fall. One of these solutions is the ankle boot.
While some fall boots add more edge, I spotted this Fashionista wearing some playful western style kicks that added a some cowgirl chic. With summer heat still beaming down, she wears a bright chevron-patterned skirt and an ivory blouse, but her brown ankle boots and her country style hobo both add some rough textures to her ensemble, creating a rustic vibe that will bring any look into the fall. Putting such a eye-catching look together, it’s obvious that this isn’t this Fashionista’s first time at the rodeo.
Name: Emily Frankenberry
Major: English and Communication
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Emily Frankenberry: I am wearing a white top from H&M, a chevron skirt from a boutique in Suburban Square (Can not remember what it’s called!), feminine cowboy boots from Target and a Kooba leather bag.
CF: Where do you usually shop?
EF: To be honest, I don’t usually shop anywhere. I like discovering new places, taking my chance on an infrequently visited store or location. I actually just got this beautiful mustard colored blazer from a flea market in New York!
CF: What’s your favorite item in your closet?
EF: My favorite item in my closet is a moss green faux leather jacket that I bought in Fort Collins, Colorado. While visiting my friend, I fell in love with the jacket but was skeptical about the price. My friend urged me to get it while I was visiting her and now every time I wear it I think of how cute it is and how glad I am that she was there to convince me it was worth it.
CF: Is there anything specific that inspires your style?
EF: I find it so compelling when someone pairs two pieces that seem to not belong together, and still finds a way to make it look cohesive and meaningful. So I see how others use their style to create a kind of identity and I try to do the same for my own look.
CF: What will you be wearing a lot this fall?
EF: Boots and berets. I’m a hat person and I have always loved them. A red beret instantly transports me to some European destination.
How to: Start out with fun patterned skater skirt and a white blouse. Add a pair of some earth tone boots that will cause heads to turn. Of course, no Fashionista will be set for the fall without the perfect bag, and this Kooba hobo will further make your ensemble cowgirl couture.
