Amidst the first week of finals at TCNJ came the first snow day here as well. Girls all over campus broke out their leggings, sweatshirts and wellies today, but this Fashionista caught my eye while wearing something a little different than the rest. I first noticed her old-school snow boots, which were paired with black jeans, a sweater and a parka. When I saw her bundled up for the first snow and I just had to stop and ask her about her seasonally chic outfit.
Name: Elyse Hoekstra
Major: International Studies
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Elyse Hoekstra: Polar Bay boots that I got from Goodwill! My sweater and jeans are from Forever 21, and my scarf is from T.J.Maxx. And my dad bought me my Herschel backpack from Urban Outfitters, I think.
CF: How would you describe your style?
EH: I would describe my style as fairly simple and casual. I try not to over think any of my outfits and just dress how I feel. I love anything flowy or comfy. I also don’t like to spend too much money on clothes so any good deal is game for me.
CF: What’s one item that you have next on your shopping list for this season?
EH: I really want a warm pair of moccasins! I think they’re perfect to wear on cold lazy days and could go with so many outfits.
CF: What is one item in your closet that you could not live without?
EH: I probably couldn’t live without my scarves. I have so many, it’s fun to shop for them and pick them out. They make a great addition to any outfit.
CF: Which season is your favorite to dress for?
EH: My favorite season to dress for is the fall! I love big sweatshirts, scarves and boots so that’s when I get to wear them the most. Although I love the snow, it’s wonderful when I can just leave the house without having to worry about bundling up.
How To: To steal this Fashionista’s wintery look, you’ll definitely need a fun pair of snow boots. Duck boots are a great investment for the winter months because they’re made for the snow but you also can wear them with skinny jeans on a clear day without looking silly. Add a funky pair of warm socks to your boots, and as this Fashionista suggests, top off your look with a scarf!
