For fear of sounding like a broken record and mentioning, once again, how Purdue might be slow on the upkeep in terms of style, I’ll just cut straight to the point! I saw this Fashionista coming out of the Chi Omega sorority house at Purdue, wearing footwear–the wedge sneaker–I so frequently see on some of my favorite fashion blogs. Yes, for once, you are able to wear sneakers and still sport a major trend in fashion. Not only is this Fashionista planning on spending next year studying fashion at FIT in New York City, but she also got these shoes for a major bargain. She proves to fellow Fashionistas that you don’t need to be a millionaire to have great personal style.
Name: Ellyn Berghoff
Major: Retail Management
CollegeFashionista: I love your outfit! Where did you get everything?
CF: What’s another really big trend you’re loving right now?
EB: Aggressive hardware, like spikes on combat boots or the studs on my jacket.
CF: How do you think your friends describe your style?
EB: Different. My friends usually make fun of the way I dress [laughs]. So I guess I like to take risks.
CF: If you could trade closets with anyone, who would it be?
EB: Serena van der Woodsen! Everything she wears is so elegant and timeless, but she always puts her own spin on things and makes them edgy.
CF: What are you looking forward to most about studying at FIT?
EB: Just getting to live in New York City! I can’t wait to be immersed in the fast-paced lifestyle and be in the heart of the fashion industry!
How To: Are you ready to take your sneaker game up a notch, although you are not quite ready to pay an “arm and a leg?” Take a tip from Ellyn and score a pair similar to her’s or Isabel Marant‘s at stores like Forever 21 or even Target. Wear your pair of sneaker wedges with a pair of skinny jeans for an everyday look, or a black skater skirt and an arm full of bangles to take the look from day to night.
