Lately, it’s been all about the pants. While many Fashionistas like to throw on a statement necklace or opt for a bold colored blazer for an eye-catching pop of color, pants have shifted from a closet essential to a strong item of clothing that can make an entire outfit. Once most commonly seen in solid colors, pants became more of a statement piece when Fashionistas began taking the patterned and printed yoga pants and leggings seen in the gym to the streets. The more sophisticated styles of printed pants such as trousers and wide-leg are still trickling their way down from the runway, making the trend still a unique choice. Read on to see how this sweet Fashionista uses her pants as an original way to express herself.
Name: Elizabeth Sanchez
Major: Clinical Psychology
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing on this lovely spring day?
Elizabeth Sanchez: I am wearing a chambray shirt from Forever 21, printed flared pants from Charlotte Russe, a neon pink belt, oxfords from ALDO and a satchel that was given to me as a gift.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
ES: I always try to be comfortable but cute at the same time, and coordinate with the weather at the same time. I try to keep it unique. I always try to add a pop of color, such as with these pants, or with an accessory or shoes.
CF: What would you say influences your personal style?
ES: When I go shopping, I try to find something thing I don’t see commonly—something unique. I like the city so I always look at what people in the city are wearing which inspires my urban taste in clothes.
How To: While many Fashionistas are fans of printed leggings and yoga pants because of the comfort, opt for sophistication with printed trousers or wide-leg pants like this Fashionista is wearing. Try these printed wide-leg pants for a true bohemian style, or these taupe and black printed trousers for a neutral look, both from Forever 21. If you really want to make a true statement, try a printed jumpsuit, also from Forever 21, that will take the boldness to the next level. This Fashionista chose a relaxed fit with a classic chambray shirt. Simple staple pieces such as a pale blue chambray shirt or a white oxford shirt from Gap are great choices to accompany patterned pants. If you want to make a statement with your shoes rather than with your pants like this Fashionista said, check out these floral leather oxfords from Rollie, available at Nordstrom. If printed pants are enough of a statement, slip into a pair of cut-out oxfords from ALDO, perfect for the spring!
