FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Diana Vanderbei

Fashionista Spotlight

Going home for the holidays is one of the best parts about winter break; other than, of course, the end of finals. While the weather differs across the country, winter ushers in a time of comfortable clothes. Whether you spend the day lounging around your house or on the beach in some exotic, interesting country, comfort is key.

This Fashionista shows how to be both laid-back and stylish while traveling or even just while you are home for the holidays. She pairs black jeans with dark brown boots, a white crotchet detailed top and a blazer. This Fashionista chose to style her outfit by adding Alex and Ani bracelets, a white watch and a light floral print scarf. Her outfit is easy to travel in, especially on trains and flights, but is at the same time structured and clean cut. Regardless of where she goes, this Fashionista will remain put together and ready to take on winter break, one train stop at a time.

Name: Diana Vanderbei

Major: Communications

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?

Diana Vanderbei: I would describe my style as fun, yet classy.

CF: Who is your style inspiration?

DV: My style inspiration comes from the wardrobe of Blair Waldorf. I love everything about her style on Gossip Girl. Everything she wears on the show is perfect.

CF: What is your go-to article of clothing this season?

DV: I would have to say scarves. I wear them with every outfit and am obsessed with them.

CF: How do you deal with the constant changes in D.C. weather?

DV: I normally add a lot of layers to my outfits, such as scarves and blazers. I also wear my tall boots now, because they keep my feet and legs warm and dry in the rain and snow.

How To: In order to emulate this Fashionista’s Blair Waldorf inspired style, the key is creating an outfit that is wearable for all occasions and yet remains fresh and put together throughout the day. Finding the perfect blazer is a difficult task, but in order to layer in the winter, a medium thickness blazer is your best bet. Try this blazer from J.Crew, which will keep you warm during the winter, but is thin enough to fit under a down jacket or trench coat. Pair the blazer with a simple silk top for chic comfort, like this from Madewell, and grab a pair of these rag & bone jeans. To finish the look, throw on a pair of tall brown Frye boots, grab a fun Alexander McQueen skull print scarf and you are ready for whatever the day has in store for you.
