Not going overboard with girly glamour has always been the hardest thing for me. Honestly, how can one be cool and cute at the same time? If you are anything like me (a not-so-girly girl), you know the struggle. Every time you pick up that fancy dress, your inner Kate Moss starts wrestling with your inner Zooey Deschanel. At last, you put it aside and decide to settle for your usual shirt and jeans combination. Don’t worry, my fellow Fashionistas—I have found the solution. To downplay a floral dress, throw in some boyish elements. A military green parka jacket juxtaposes with its femininity, and evokes a hint of quirkiness. Also, a pair of brown boots adds sass to your look; which tones down the sweetness of floral prints.
Name: Daniela Grinblatt
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing, and where is it from?
Daniela Grinblatt: I’m wearing a military green parka jacket from YesStyle. It’s an Asian shopping site selling cheap, yet pretty clothing. My sunflower dress and my bag are both from Urban Outfitters; while my boots are from Salvatore Ferragamo!
CF: What inspired your outfit today?
DG: Well, I shaved my legs yesterday so I might as well put that into good use (laughs). Also, I have an interview today. It’s for a blogger position for the food column so I want to look interesting and fun. You know, it’s getting chilly and everyone dresses in gray. I thought it’d be nice to juxtapose the trend with some flowers.
CF: How would you characterize your style?
DG: Comfortable and fun! I always go for comfy dresses with nice flow.
CF: Where do you usually shop?
DG: Urban Outfitters is certainly one of my favorite shops—I got this bag from their clearance sale. Vintage stores are also places I frequent; while LF Montana has a cool hippie vibe— which I love.
CF: Where do you draw your style inspiration?
DG: Berkeley students often give me inspiration. I love to walk on Sproul Plaza and check out how they dress. You can really find an eclectic mix of styles here. They are all fascinating, and I appreciate how they look stylish despite not trying too hard.
How To: To recreate this Fashionista’s look, start with a floral sundress. Then, put on a boyish parka jacket (preferably fur-trimmed). Finally, throw on a pair of umber brown boots and carry a fun tassel bag!
