Fashionista Spotlight

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” Well, after the most brutal winter I could have ever imagined, I am extremely pleased to say that I think this little lamb is tiptoeing away! Being the fashion enthusiast that I am, I’m excited to start wearing open-toed shoes, colored denim and bright prints again. As spring has slowly started to bloom on campus, I have noticed students begin to shed their layers, including this Fashionista. On a quiet and sunny afternoon, I spotted her after class sporting a perfect winter-to-spring transitional look as she headed downtown to run some errands.

Name: Dana Smith

Major: Undecided

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?

Dana Smith: I would describe my style as simple and casual. On most days of the week, you can find me in leggings and a comfy top. I also typically don’t wear too many accessories, but when I do, I like to make sure that they stand out.

CF: What spring fashion trends are you most excited for?

DS: Every spring, I get excited to wear the latest batch of floral prints. I love pairing a bright, floral sundress with a more neutral colored belt and cute sandals. I’m also excited to start wearing white jeans again because I think the bright colors in spring shirts stand out so much more against white than denim!

CF: What piece of clothing or accessory do you think all girls should have in their closet?

DS: I think colorful and fun scarves are a must have for all girls. Scarves can be worn practically year round and they always take your look to the next level.

CF: Who do you look up to as a style icon?

DS: I would say that I often look to Jennifer Aniston’s closet for fashion ideas. She has a simplistic style, just like I do, that allows her natural beauty to shine. I especially like looking at what types of accessories she is wearing and trying to find something similar to incorporate into my wardrobe!

How To: To get this Fashionista’s simplistic yet stylish look, start with a casual button-down, such as a bright popover top, a traditional flannel or a basic chambray. If you’re shooting for an on-the-go look, pair your shirt with leggings or jeans, or get creative and try it with a printed pencil skirt. For footwear, you can’t go wrong with leather lace-up boots, like this Fashionista was sporting, but as we transition into spring, look to mix things up by wearing a pair of patent leather thong sandals.
