As we still remain in what feels like the dead of winter with nearly a foot of snow remaining on the ground, it’s hard to even imagine the arrival of spring. But, as February comes to an end it can only mean one thing—spring training is right around the corner. And no, I don’t mean the kind of spring training that includes a bat and ball. It’s time to start warming up your wardrobe and playing with those bright colors, like fuchsia, teal and orange.
Name: Colleen Clare
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Colleen Clare: Well, my flats are by Nine West. My jeans are from American Eagle Outfitters; they are the only place to carry extra long pants. I recently got into LOFT so my sweater is from there. My bright blue bag is Coach, and all of my accessories are from Charming Charlie. Charming Charlie is my favorite. I love that their stores are color coded.
CF: How would you describe your style?
CC: I feel like my style is classic but really girly. Statement necklaces are really my thing though. I am my friends “go-to” girl when it comes to jewelry and necklaces. I’m that girl who owns all of the necklaces around every girls’ neck in a picture on Facebook.
CF: What is your favorite thing about college fashion?
CC: My favorite thing about college fashion is that everyone is from different cities and have different styles to bring to the table. Whether it’s boho, New York City or Lilly Pulitzer from the South, I am constantly trying out new styles and trends based off of my friends’ backgrounds. One of my friends from California has a really hippie style that may start to rub off on me soon enough.
CF: What colors or patterns are your favorites to incorporate to your style?
CC: I love bright colors, especially in purses. I have a bag in almost every color. Adding bright colors just brings any outfit to the next level.
CF: What influences your style the most?
CC: Looking at celebrities’ styles in magazines like People is really helpful. I really like looking through People magazine because they have a lot of pictures of what people wear every day versus really formal attire, which is usually seen in most other magazines.
How To: Try adding bright, vibrant colors to your winter palette like with this turquoise cardigan from Banana Republic or this pink Lilly Pulizter puffer vest. Bright accessories like this Fahionista wears work as well. Instead of a bright blue bag, try a multicolored statement necklace like this one by kate spade.
