Fashionista Spotlight

Winter is officially here so it’s time to get out your most unique statement outerwear. Who cares about the snow when there are so many amazing jackets walking around? Being a native from Boulder, this Fashionista knows how to be prepared for the snow in a fashionable way. She mixed three of my favorite trends in today’s look: military green, fur and studs. There’s no better combination! With her other neutral colors to pull the ensemble together, she was not going to walk any further until I heard more about her personal style!

Name: Claire Rocken

Major: Communications

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: Fill me in on your outfit! What are you wearing?

Claire Rocken: My leggings are lululemon and my boots were a present, so I’m not sure where they were from, but I think somewhere online. I got my jacket and sweater from Forever 21 and my scarf and hat are from Nordstrom.

CF: How would you describe your style?

CR: I like to dress with oversized pieces so I guess I would describe my style as boho chic with a little punk. I wear a lot of neutral colors during the day as well.

CF: What is your favorite store to shop at?

CR: I love shopping at Forever 21. I know that it is an enormous store but I can get lost in there for hours and find 10 new outfits. I love that they have very similar looks to designers but with their own twist.

CF: What’s your favorite item in your closet?

CR: Especially since it’s winter, I love my black velvet dress from American Apparel. It’s perfect for the holidays and I love the fabric.

CF: Any celebrity fashion icons?

CR: I love Rachel Bilson’s style. I feel like our casual styles are very simple because we both keep it simple with neutral colors.

How To: Want to stay as stylish in the winter as this Fashionista? The most important piece of clothing for the winter is a statement jacket, just like this Fashionista’s army green parka with fur lining down the zipper. Don’t just settle for fur around the hood! You want to stay cozy while you’re walking to class, so a wool sweater with a neutral color will last you for years. A pair of leggings is essential in every Fashionista’s closet. It’s a mock pair of black jeans that are still comfortable. A pair of rocker combat boots with studs always upgrades your outfit to a little more punk. And there’s nothing wrong with that! Whether there are a ton of studs or simply a few to add some detail, these bad boys will always make you look good. Adding some accessories to your outfit like an infinity scarf and a beanie can bring all of your winter pieces together.
