One of the greatest things about college fashion is watching the evolution of your personal style throughout the four years. Though I am only a sophomore, I know that my style, as well as most students’ will grow and redefine itself. When you are nearing the end of your undergrad years, you will essentially know who you are, what your style is and what your goals are. As a senior, it is your time to relish the college life but also become an adult and look the part with functional and fashionable clothes.
This Fashionista is entering her senior year and knows her style preferences. She isn’t afraid to try new trends or create her own. She draws inspiration from fearless, beautiful celebrities like Rihanna and interprets their lavish and wacky fashion choices into her own look. Another great thing about college fashion is that it will always be different yet similar to the days you roamed the quad (the ’90s are back!).
Name: Christina Maselli
Major: Fashion Merchandising
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style in a few words?
Christina Maselli: Modern, bold and feminine.
CF: What are your wardrobe staples for any season?
CM: For any season I make it a point to have a great pair of jeans (dark and medium wash) and I suggest Joe’s Jeans or Paige Premium Denim. For staple accessories, I always wear my Michael Kors watch, hoop earrings, and my Michael Kors bag which goes with everything. Lastly, this is so cliché but I have to say a black dress that you can wear anywhere and with anything is always useful.
CF: What or who inspires your style?
CM: On a day-to-day basis, my mood and the weather influence what I wear. I try to wear things that reflect my personality. Things that inspire me are Instagram accounts like Outfit of the Day and Rihanna’s account. I love how she takes everything to the extreme and I use that inspiration and work it into something I can wear. One day she put up a picture of a dress made entirely of money and I loved that. It gives me ideas.
CF: Have you ever taken any fashion risks? Did they pay off?
CM: I love my wedge sneakers! My friends told me not to get them but I bought them at Nordstrom and wear them all the time. When I went to abroad to Paris in the winter they were everywhere on the street! That definitely paid off. Something that didn’t pay off were my white puffy moon boots in middle school.
CF: Which trend are you looking forward to this fall?
CM: Tights and boots because they always come back into style. Also I want to try patterned tights to wear with a skirt.
How To: Create this outfit with a simple tank top and comfortable slim harem pants. Wear some great gladiator sandals for a summer outfit or flats to transition to fall. Add some polish to the look with a statement pendant necklace, bangles and a watch. For even more polish, copy this Fashionista’s braided top knot!
