Summer classes are in session and the Fashion Institute of Technology marked its territory for capturing great street fashion photography. Stationed right on Fashion Avenue, I spotted this Fashionista rushing to class sporting a popular trend.
Stripes have taken over both spring and summer styles. Whether the pattern is seen on shirts, pants or skirts, it is everywhere. This Fashionista owned this trend as she wore this blue blazer, topped with a hat and a pop of red from her tote bag.
Name: Christina Johnson
Major: Fashion Design
CollegeFashionista: What inspired your outfit?
Christina Johnson: I was going for a fashionable, yet comfortable look. Blazers might seem too dressy for everyday wear, but it’s normal to me. I think it always brings my look together.
CF: What fashion trend do you follow the most?
CJ: I love wearing bright colors. I have seen lots of neon trending in stores now so I am definitely excited to add more colors to my wardrobe.
CF: Where do you like to shop?
CJ: At the mall you can find me in stores like American Apparel and Urban Outfitters. Otherwise, I usually shop at thrift stores because I find more unique pieces there. Sometimes I like to get creative and alter pieces from the thrift store myself.
CF: What is one article of clothing or accessory you need for this summer?
CJ: Shades! I always have a pair with me.
How To: The key items in this Fashionista’s outfit are the blazer and striped pants. Choose a colored blazer that will make your outfit pop. Also, pay close attention to the different striped patterns. Remember vertical stripes create the illusion of a taller and slimmer figure. Check out Forever 21, H&M, Karmaloop and Urban Outfitters to find a style that fits you best. The hat and tote bag can all be altered to fit different occasions. Opting for a smaller bag and nice pair of heels can easily take this day look to a night out.
