Almost every college student participates in some form of internship during his or her undergraduate career. Business majors especially need to learn quickly how to transition from sweatpants to suits for meetings, internships and even classes. This week’s Fashionista discusses the importance of owning blazers as an undergraduate marketing major. I only have two blazers but after this interview she gave me the motivation to go out and start shopping for more.
Name: Cassie Shah
CollegeFashionista: Tell me where you got each piece of your outfit.
Cassie Shah: I bought my peplum top and black blazer from Body Central. My black skinny jeans are from PacSun. My accessories are from cute Etsy stores. I love hot air balloons!
CF: What are your favorite stores?
CS: Forever 21 and Macy’s. But lately I have been shopping at New York & Company. I need to add more internship-appropriate and professional clothing to my wardrobe.
CF: If you could have anyone’s wardrobe who would it be and why?
CS: This is going to sound very strange, but Nicki Minaj. She is super crazy and rebellious. A lot of people don’t like her, but I don’t care. I love the crazy wigs and colorful hair she always has. But on a classier side, I’d want Jennifer Aniston’s wardrobe. She is beautiful and has great style.
CF: How did your wardrobe change throughout your college years?
CS: Well, my freshmen year I basically wore everything from high school. Once I joined a business fraternity, my wardrobe filled up with suits, dress pants, flats and dresses. But like I said, I definitely need to add more professional clothing to my closet.
CF: What fashion item should every business major have?
CS: A very comfortable blazer. Every business major will be interning at some type of office and these are usually cold so blazers are definitely a must. Now I have a whole collection of different colored blazers.
How To: For a similar professionally chic outfit, start off with a white peplum top and combine it with black skinny jeans. Add a black blazer and cute, simple accessories. Finish off the look with black wedges. This casual yet professional look is a perfect transition outfit from work to shopping at the mall!
