A couple of the biggest trends on my campus right now are harem and lounge style pants. With a hybrid mix of comfort and style, it’s no wonder why these are such a hit with students. I spotted this Fashionista donning a pair and just had to stop her to find out all about the craze.
Name: Caroline Jackson
Major: Exercise Science
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today and where are the pieces from?
Caroline Jackson: A tank top and harem pants from 2020AVE, a double-breasted cardigan from Urban Thread, sandals from GoJane and gifted peacock earrings.
CF: Harem pants are very trendy at the moment. What are some of your other favorite trends? What about trends that you would never be caught dead in?
CJ: I’m currently in love with jumpsuits. Paired with the right accessories, they’re such an easy way to bring an edge to your wardrobe. As for trends I’m not really into: chevron print anything. The pattern is in no way complimentary to any of my assets.
CF: What are your definite mainstays? Your go-to classic looks that are foolproof for you?
CJ: Flowy tops, high-waisted skinny jeans, maxi dresses or skirts and strappy sandals.
CF: Who do you look up to when it comes to style?
CJ: Solange Knowles. I love how she ties together classic and eclectic pieces.
CF: How would you describe your style? Why do you think style is important?
CJ: All over the place! One day I may be in a classic blazer and the next I’m sporting funky palazzo pants. Style is important because it is a key component of the initial impression you relay to others; it is the avenue by which you are able to convey a sense of originality or uniqueness almost instantly.
How To: Since harem pants are already a statement within themselves, it’s best to keep it low-key when styling a look comprised of the trendy trousers. Of course, you can’t really go wrong with a black pair like the ones this Fashionista dons. If you want something a little more eye-catching, try a printed style. Just remember to keep the rest of your outfit rather simple and clean so nothing clashes.
