Boston has been bringing on the hot weather. It feels like just yesterday I was rushing to get inside for a heater and a cup of hot chocolate. Now, the high temperatures call for wearing as little clothes as possible (not that I support such an act in any way) and trying to find the closest air-conditioned building. With the temperatures playing a major role in one’s everyday ensemble, it’s important to stick to the basics but still make a statement. Today’s Fashionista has done just that with her red skirt and floral peplum top. She accessorized with some cute tortoise shell sunglasses and showed school spirit with adorable Northeastern University bracelets.
Name: Caroline Belshe
Year: 6th year
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Caroline Belshe: A top from Target, a skirt from H&M, sunglasses from Target and Northeastern University Alex and Ani bracelets.
CF: Where are your favorite places to shop in Boston?
CB: Ann Taylor Loft is currently my favorite place to shop. They have great clothes for both work and play. I also shop a lot at Gap, Banana Republic, Marshalls and Target, of course.
CF: How would you say your style has evolved since your freshman year?
CB: For most of my undergrad career, I wore typical college girl attire—yoga pants, UGG boots and sweaters. Now I like to wear cute, comfortable and professional clothing (lots of dresses, skirts and flats!).
CF: What is your favorite thing to wear to beat the summer heat?
CB: I love wearing sundresses. My summer wardrobe includes lots of bright colors, chunky necklaces and strappy sandals.
CF: Do you have any style icons or anyone/thing you look to as a fashion influence?
CB: No one in particular, although I do spend a lot of time on Pinterest fashion pages!
How To: If you want to keep things nice and light to avoid being a sweaty mess, stay away from unnecessary layers and look for lightweight garments. For a pop of color, start with a brightly colored mini skirt like this Fashionista has done. To make it more daytime appropriate, wear a patterned peplum top over it and complete your look with some casual sandals. If skirts aren’t your thing, opt for a pair of shorts that have just as much pop. Accessorize with some gold bangles and sunglasses and you’ll be set for any balmy summer day.
