Fashionista Spotlight

Every girl is excited to show off her new clothes on their first day back to school, especially after the winter holidays! I love denim, and I stopped this Fashionista because her denim jacket caught my eye. This layered look is definitely one of the best way to beat the cold in style for school!

Name: Carly Yamaichi

Major: Design

Year: Junior

College Fashionista: Why did you choose this outfit for your first day back from winter break?

Carly Yamaichi: This jean jacket is new and I wanted to keep warm so I was excited to wear it for my first day back!

CF: Who are some celebrities that inspire your wardrobe and why?

CY: I like how the Kardashians dress, but this outfit in particular wasn’t inspired by any celebrity.

CF: What’s your favorite thing to wear on a party night out?

CY: I like wearing a really nice top or blouse with leggings and boots to keep it nice but not too over the top. Sometimes I’ll wear a dress or skirt, it depends on the weather and the event.

How To: This is a great back to school outfit for the winter months, and it’s important to note that she layers to combat the cold weather outoors and the heat when she’s indoors. College students often walk or bike to class and layer on cardigans, sweaters, and coats in order to keep warm, but take off all of their layers because of (usually) heated classrooms. Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and thrift stores are great places to find cheap pieces you can layer! I like how this fashionista layered her look with neutral colors, but wore an olive green scarf to bring it to life. You could also brighten this look up even more with a mint scarf, one of the hottest colors this winter season! Her light washed denim jacket also helped to brighten up her look. I also liked that she completed her look with feminine cognac boots. My favorite place to look for boots is Steve Madden, or if you’re on a budget Forever 21!

Carly kept her style clean by layering with solid colors. An easy way to spice up a layered look is by wearing a statement piece! My favorite trend this year is STUDS, so a way I would change this look up is by wearing a studded collared shirt instead of a sheer plain tunic, or pair the tunic with a spiked necklace. Studs will give your soft layered look an edge instantly! Pearled collars and necklaces are also a popular trend to try this winter for a softer and flirty spin off of the spikes and studs. Urban Outfitters, ASOS and NASTY GALare great places to look for these trends!
