FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Carly O’Connor

Fashionista Spotlight

Have you ever seen someone and thought he or she was a walking advertisement for a company? I have found the Fashionista that could have walked out of a J.Crew catalog. Each piece is a variation of a classic piece, which puts this outfit on trend for any season. The shift dress is what caught my attention right away. The contrasting look with the evergreen coat against the tan print creates an ensemble ideal for a any occasion. One small change could take this outfit from day to night. Especially during this month of love, you can never go wrong with a dash of glitter and sparkle.

Name: Carly O’Connor

Major: Marketing

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style and where do you find inspiration?

Carly O’Connor: I would say my style is pretty feminine. I worked at J.Crew for five and a half years, so you can image where most of my wardrobe is from. I mainly find style inspiration from some of my favorite fashion blogs, See Jane, A PIECE of TOAST and Kendi Everyday.

CF: What celebrity closet would you love to raid and why?

CO: I love Jessica Alba’s style. You can tell she is not afraid to be different, which I love. She always looks so put together even when she wears her hair in a ponytail and jeans. I also love how she does not have one particular style. She can really pull off just about anything.

CF: What is your perfect holiday outfit this season?

CO: Skirts and dresses with booties and a mix of any of the following: reds, blacks, gold jewelry, animal prints and gingham patterns. But not all at once!

CF: What is your fashion mantra?

CO: “It’s a new era in fashion—there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels and up-and-coming designers all together.” — Alexander McQueen

How To: Building the outfit around a bold piece is a solid starting place. Find a dress in a print that showcases your unique style, and pair it with tights, a scarf and booties in monochromatic shades. Every Fashionista and Fashionisto needs a great coat. A style and color that will last through the seasons are key aspects to look for. With this crazy weather lingering around Knoxville, a coat can keep those stylish clothes unharmed, but don’t let the weather put a damper on your fashion!
