The perks of traveling is not only seeing the quaint cafes, unique shops and performers that line the streets, but also seeing the styles of different Fashionistas and Fashionistos along the way. I recently traveled to the city of Norfolk, Va., which is not too far away from my hometown. Norfolk has a completely different vibe than the sand filled sidewalks of Virginia Beach. Norfolk is a bustling city home to many different colleges, including Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University and Tidewater Community College. While shopping around, I ran into this Fashionista outside of Urban Outfitters. Her “no-hassle” outfit is perfect for a day of shopping or running errands. With her easy-made sock bun and simple accessorizes, it is easy for her to try on clothes in different shops without spending too much time.
Name: Brookes Midgett
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Brookes Midgett: I am wearing high-waisted black shorts with a black cami tucked in. To accessorize, I threw on a light-wash denim jean jacket with the cut-off sleeves, along with a beaded necklace.
CF: What are your go-to pieces for summer?
BM: My go-to pieces for summer are definitely high-waisted shorts, a tank top and some sandals.
CF: How would you describe your every day style? What is your inspiration?
BM: My every day style is pretty casual and simple, but sometimes a little edgy or preppy. It really depends on my mood and the environment I am in. My inspirations are my friends, as well as social media like Pinterest and Wanelo.
CF: What is your advice for other Fashionistas this summer?
BM: Change up your style and get out of your comfort zone. There are awesome pieces that sometimes can only be worn in summer like rompers and tiny cut-off shorts.
How To: Short shorts and tank tops are summer essentials. This Fashionista’s black ensemble is fabulous, but adding some color is an perfect way to incorporate a hint of summer. Urban Outfitters sells high-waisted shorts in hot pink (among many other colors) that are right on trend for this season. Adding a small handbag to hold your keys and other essentials would be an easy accessory to carry while out shopping and running errands.
