Classes have started up again here at SUNY Cortland and Fashionistas/os all over campus see that as an occasion to throw on their best outfits and get in their last few wears of their favorite warm weather pieces. We all know that it’s not long before the fall weather sends us running for our sweaters and scarves. This Fashionista wore chambray, which is a great piece to have because of its versatility, with a cream skirt and pair of Converse All-Stars, making this a cute but casual outfit for her first day of classes. Her preppy look screams “back to school” even if she’s not totally thrilled about it.
Name: Brittney Schulman
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Brittney Schulman: My chambray shirt is from J.Crew, the skirt is from Urban Outfitters, my sneakers are Converse, my bag is from H&M and my watch is kate spade.
CF: Where do you usually shop?
BS: Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, Bloomingdale’s, J.Crew and Banana Republic. I get a lot of my shoes from Jildor because my boyfriend works there and gets me a nice discount.
CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?
BS: My Sam Edelman ankle booties.
CF: Is there anything or anyone that inspires your style?
BS: I definitely get a lot of inspiration from fashion blogs and instagram accounts. SomethingnAvy has to be my favorite right now. I also love to get ideas from my favorite TV shows like Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl. Walking around New York City always inspires my style.
CF: Describe your personal style.
BS: My style is all over the place. It could be preppy one day and the next day more grungy.
CF: Which celebrity’s style do you love?
BS: Olivia Palermo.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s look, you can pair a light colored chambray with a pleated skirt. Wear a pair of sneakers to dress down the outfit and make it more casual. Use a belt to finish it off for a more polished look. To go bold, use a printed skirt and instead of a neutral cross-body bag, try adding a pop of color.
