When most people hear the word “girly,” they typically associate it with flirty dresses, sky-high heels and the color pink. In my mind, those descriptions also fit the portrayal of Elle Woods from Legally Blonde or an ensemble that is totally clichéd and corny. I am here to ask you to venture away from the norm, and to put all those stereotypical connotations aside. If you follow these steps, I promise you can still look “girly.” First, trade in your dresses for denim. Second, swap out your heels for flats. Most important is this disclaimer: earth tones are the new pink!
Earth tones are totally on trend this fall, and this fabulous Fashionista shows you how to incorporate them into your everyday look while still maintaining a refined femininity. And the best part is that she is sporting easy-going wardrobe staples that every woman already has hanging in her closet!
Name: Brielle Petty
Major: Criminal Justice
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Brielle Petty: I would say it’s unique, common and at the same time different. I like things that express sophistication and class but that also have an edge to it.
CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?
BP: My favorite item at this moment is a pair of cinnamon colored peep toe heels I got from Target. I adore them!
CF: I love how contemporary yet classic your look is. Where do you find inspiration for your style?
BP: I am a Beyoncé FANATIC. If I can find and put anything together that is remotely close to her style, then I’m doing it with no problem. I also love runway ready ideas from magazines that are simple to put together at home!
CF: Where are your favorite stores to shop?
BP: My favorite store is Necessary Clothing, which is a clothing store stationed out of New York. Fab items to say the least!
CF: What will you be wearing a lot of this fall?
BP: This fall I plan on wearing a lot of earth tone colors, boots of all kinds as well as Aztec sweaters. I love dark denim, so I’m sure I’ll be rocking that as well!
How To: This look is all about avoiding color and embracing neutrals. The key is to focus on darker pieces, but add a few lighter toned accessories so you don’t actually blend in with nature. Try a versatile olive colored blouse, paired with a sleek pair of dark blue skinny jeans and a simple black tote to throw over your shoulder. This Fashionista brings life to the palette of her outfit with pearl studs, a gold watch, white sunnies and a classic pair of Keds to match. Lastly, top off the look (literally) with an elegant sock bun!
