As January comes to an end, Boston winter has only just begun. Even though the sun still shines, temperatures reach terrible lows and it’s not always easy to dress for the occasion. In a sea of NorthFace winter coats and UGGs, this Fashionista knows how to stay warm on the coldest of days all the while staying fashionable.
Name: Baili Olive
Major: Political Science and English
CollegeFashionista: How do you stay warm in the wintertime?
Baili Olive: I love wearing dresses, even when it’s really cold outside. So I stay warm with thigh-high boots, over-the-knee socks and thick scarves.
CF: What is your favorite clothing item in your closet right now?
BO: I love my fur collar. I can wear it with everything. And, it keeps me warm, too!
CF: How would you describe your fashion style?
BO: Black. It’s not really a style, but I wear all-black most of the time.
CF: What would be your one staple look?
BO: Probably red lips. Wearing red lipstick always adds a little bit more to my outfit, which is probably all-black anyway.
CF: What is your fashion pet peeve?
BO: I hate kitten heels. I can’t stand them. I also don’t think anyone should walk out of their house wearing UGGs.
CF: Who are your favorite designers?
BO: Jason Wu and Rodarte, but I also love Tory Burch and my guilty pleasure is Juicy Couture.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s look, start off with a simple black dress like this Down and Dotty Dress by ModCloth. Opt for a heavier boot that will last like these Frye Shirley Over-The-Knee Riding Boots. While they have a higher price point, they’re a great investment for New England winters. Feel free to experiment with fur collars, whether in a bright color like this Baby Blue Faux Fur Collar from New York & Company or just a natural brown like this Topshop Faux Fur Collar available at Nordstrom. And, top off the look with a red lip. My favorite option for an everyday red lip is the Benefit Benetint. This light lip stain won’t smear like lipstick or lipgloss.
