Fashionista Spotlight

White is a refreshing choice of color this spring and I love those who aren’t afraid to wear it. This Fashionista keeps it cool and casual as she flaunts in her white boyfriend jeans. Her black accessories are simple, but oh-so-effective when paired with her black and white striped top and denim-colored jacket. She pulls off the knotted headband in such a fun way that makes this Fashionista’s added details retro and funky.

Name: Aurora Johnson

Major: Fashion Business

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?

Aurora Johnson: I’m wearing Crown Vintage boots from DSW with boyfriend jeans from the Gap. My striped top is from Urban Outfitters and a Cotton On jacket. My scarf I have on was my grandmothers and I have on a twisted headband from American Apparel.

CF: How would you describe your style in one word?

AJ: My style is a reflection of my mood and weather on a day to day basis. Sometimes I dress really girly or boho and sometimes it is more grungy. I don’t think I could say that I dress a certain way all the time to have a definitive style. All I know is that an outfit isn’t complete without lipstick.

CF: What is an essential piece of clothing in your closet?

AJ: The perfect striped shirt and a cute bra.

CF: Where do you love to shop?

AJ: I like to shop at a variety of stores. Some of my favorites are Urban Outfitters, Gap and Forever 21. Ann Taylor Loft and J.Crew are great as well. I also love to thrift shop occasionally.

CF: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?

AJ: Lately street style has been my biggest inspiration. I am also inspired by magazines, celebrities and my friends.

CF: Do you have any favorite designers/brands? Why are they your favorite?

AJ: I love Kate Spade! Everything is so cute and fun, plus I like the idea of a pop of color. I also love Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Gucci. I admire brands that constantly evolve but consistently create new pieces that remain true to their aesthetic.

CF: What do you see yourself doing in the future since you are graduating?

AJ: I hope to pursue a career in sales. My ultimate career goal is to be a personal shopper.

How To: If you want to have a simple and minimalistic look this spring, white is a color that will do just that. It doesn’t matter if you want to wear white boyfriend jeans or a unique asymmetrical skirt because there are various styles. Wear what fits you. Adding a matching white jersey or crop top can really make your look sleek. And for more detail jewelry and/or a headband can distinguish you from the rest.
