After yet another snowfall, York College students trudged through the snow and slush to their classes in layers and frowns, wishing winter would simply go away. Spotting a defiant Fashionista or Fashionisto in this weather was nothing short of a challenge; comparable to a Where’s Waldo inquiry. Surveying campus for a Fashionista/o was exhausting but finally I spied with my little eye a Fashionista leaving Wolf Hall and dashed off to greet her.
Even from a distance it was hard not to admire this Fashionista’s use of mixed mediums, color and bold stripes in her outfit. I was even more intrigued once I learned that this Fashionista shared the name of one of my favorite Disney princesses. However, unlike Princess Aurora, this Fashionista was full of energy, eager to share her love for fashion.
Name: Aurora Hudson
Major: Mass Communications and Political Science
CollegeFashionista: What decade do you reflect on most for your fashion inspiration?
Aurora Hudson: I like to combine different decades. I reflect mostly on the ’80s and ’90s for inspiration.
CF: What is your fashion motto?
AH: Wear what’s comfortable and what looks good.
CF: What is your favorite transitional winter into spring trend?
AH: For me it’s all about transitioning a good coat and pair of shorts into each new season. Shorts can be so easily worn over a pair of tights or leggings, they are great for any season!
CF: Do you have a favorite designer?
AH: I have a couple favorite designers, including Norma Kamali, Chanel and Michael Kors.
How To: To replicate this Fashionista’s furry look, throw on a shaggy faux fur vest over a body-hugging striped dress. For warmth, add a pair of black knit or leather leggings underneath the dress and a pair of black boots or heels. Then add some stud earrings, a warm winter coat and a Michael Kors messenger bag and you will be ready to seize the day in style!
