Chilly weather leaves the students of the University of Colorado struggling to keep cozy and couture. This Fashionista manages to survive the elements while looking oh-so-chic on her way to class. She nails this effortless look with pops of color, lace detailing and a messy top knot.
Name: Aubrey Lerche
Major: Marketing and Human Resource Management
CollegeFashionista: Tell us a little bit about your outfit for the day.
Aubrey Lerche: This is a comfortable, yet cute outfit I can wear to classes, my internship or even a lunch date. My schedule is really busy so I love an ensemble that can transition from the casual to the more formal activities.
CF: What is your favorite detail about this look?
AL: I love the pop of color in my tote, which matches the stitching in the sweater. A bright color can be an interesting detail that adds a little flare to the outfit. It just catches your eye. My tote is reversible too, so I flip the color out and use it as a statement piece with simple, monochromatic clothes.
CF: How would you sum up your style?
AL: My style is a mashup of NASTY GAL and Free People. Edgy and girly! It is always changing.
CF: Where do you look for fashion influence and inspiration?
AL: Of course I love to keep my look current with the aid of fashion magazines like ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar, but I like to look to the people around me as well. On campus, I spot fashion forward looks all the time that give me great ideas on what to wear or how to put a twist on the typical sweater and boots get-up.
CF: It is easy to want to drop big bucks on clothing. What is your advice about being a Fashionista with out breaking the bank?
AL: Go for the sale racks! You never know what one of a kind piece or high-quality basic you can score for a bargain. Also, utilize the sales representatives. Sometimes they can lead you to the discounts!
How To: This Fashionista rocks a sweater with a sweet lacy inlay. The bold texture and pattern in the lace puts a refreshing spin on the everyday creme sweater. Imitate this look and pick up a sweater with a great print, inventive cut or luxurious texture. Every college girl needs an oversized handbag for classes, weekend trips and a good shopping spree. This multi-purpose bag also brings some life to the outfit with stitching and color. Pick a fun tote with some unique detailing to spice up a look that needs just that extra “something.” Accessorize with the right boots and a chunky bracelet. Ombre leather boots, like this Fashionista’s, blend her dark skinnies nicely with her neutral top and bag. Take a moment to finish off the look with your personal favorites like a pair of sunglasses, statement earrings or a handful of rings.
