Fashionista Spotlight

It can be tricky to put together an outfit that’s great for any time of day or occasion. This Fashionista masters it with a modest dress and adds some great pieces to keep it modern and hip. A patterned blazer stands out and helps make this outfit appropriate for both class and work. She adds some easy booties and unique accessories that show her personality.

Name: Ashley Cooke

Major: Media Studies

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing Ashley?

Ashley Cooke: My boots and my dress are both from H&M. My blazer is from Target. This necklace is from ASOS. These sunglasses are from Nordstrom. My bag is from Urban Outfitters. This watch is from Casio from American Apparel I think. I’ve had it forever.

CF: Where you do go to shop?

AC: I shop online a lot like on ASOS. I do thrift shopping definitely. Target’s a good one. I sort of walk around and see what comes to me. I used to work at H&M so it’s kind of sickening how much I’m attached to it.

CF: What’s your favorite thing in your closet right now?

AC: I just bought a new dress off of ASOS that has floral print and a collar. I’m really into collars. I buy everything with collars.

CF: Who’s your style inspiration?

AC: There is this blogger named Karla Deras who is actually from my hometown. I have followed her from the beginning, and I go to her blog a lot for inspiration. We don’t have the same style, but I have followed her transformation so I feel like I’ve transformed. Her blog is called Karla’s Closet.

CF: What three pieces should every Fashionista have in her closet?

AC: Definitely a good pair of boots. I wear boots with everything. A good blazer and a go-to top that you feel comfortable in. I have one that I have had for a good six years that I should probably throw out, but I love it.

CF: What are you excited to wear this spring?

AC: I’ve made a pact with myself that I need to wear more skirts. I love them, and I feel like a girl in them. I can’t wait to wear them.

CF: How would you describe your style?

AC: Simple, and I try to keep it classic with the collars, but I like to add in things like necklaces. If I’m wearing a simple color palette, I will add a colorful or patterned jacket.

How To: A patterned jacket or sweater is a great piece to build your outfit around. If you go for a dark patterned blazer like our Fashionista, grab a simple dress in a neutral color. You can even try to mix and match patterns this spring like trying a striped fit and flare dress under the blazer for a unique look. Great accessories like a statement necklace and a cool tote complete this perfect outfit that’s great for class, work or getting together with friends.
