Spring break has finally made its way to Villanova, but it still feels like we’re in the dead of winter. While I know it is somewhat of a tease to walk into a boutique and not yet be able to wear those oh so cute pastel shorts, this weather gives us another chance to revel in our favorite wintery trends. One of this winter’s most popular trends is black and white. It is a polished and sophisticated color pairing that can also easily be dressed down and made casual. Adding an accent color in either jewelry or shoes can truly make the outfit pop. On a somewhat gloomy winter morning I spotted this Fashionista glowing effortlessly in this season’s most trendy color paring.
Name: Ann Kuznia
CollegeFashionista: Can you tell me what you have on?
Ann Kuznia: My silk top is from T.J. Maxx, my coat is from BB Dakota, my pants are J.Crew “Pixie” pants (so comfortable!), my emerald flats are from ALDO and my scarf is from my trendy mother!
CF: Describe your personal style in three words.
AK: Although you caught me in black and white today, I would normally describe my style as modern, funky and vibrant.
CF: What are you most excited about for spring fashion?
AK: The colors and jewels! For some reason when winter rolls around everyone focuses on neutrals and is terrified to wear color — even in their jewelry! During the spring people begin to remember how much fun it is playing with accessories, just in time for summer. There is nothing better than a delicate dress with a chunky, brightly jeweled necklace to set it off.
CF: What is one thing in your closet that you could not live without?
AK: Not to be too personal but sticky breast petals! There are so many stunning tops and dresses that you can simply not wear a bra with. Whether it be strapless or open-back, not wearing a bra should not hinder you from buying it!
CF: Is there any specific designer or celebrity that inspires your own style?
AK: I really love how Ellie Goulding dresses, so I follow her quite often. Her style is a mixture of grunge with a flower child delicate side. In my opinion, she exudes real femininity—women as powerful sex symbols as well as symbols of pure beauty.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s polished yet sassy style, start with a black and white top. As for the pants, I would suggest black or dark wash skinny jeans. Then pair with a long black coat with a leather accent on the sleeves to add a bit of trendiness. For the accent piece, I would choose a brightly colored, chunky necklace, bracelet or earrings to make the outfit stand out. I would finish the outfit off with your favorite pair of combat boots!
