FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Andrea Powers

Fashionista Spotlight

Having a good accessory always catches one’s eye, especially if it’s a cute furry little friend. This Fashionista insists on always looking cute no matter what the occasion. Her sophisticated and flirty style always has the center of attention in any room.

Name: Andrea Powers

Major: Fashion Apparel and Merchandising

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?

Andrea Powers: I am wearing a black maxi skirt with a slit in the front from Forever 21, a knit cropped sweater and a burgundy cardigan also from Forever 21. My black booties are from Steve Madden.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

AP: I would describe my personal style as a mix of old and new. I always try incorporating new and old trends, as well as mix and match my old clothes with new clothes. I’m obsessed with layering and never think any outfit is ever complete without it.

CF: Where do you draw inspiration for your outfits?

AP: I draw inspiration from everything and everybody around me. If I’m attracted to something somebody else is wearing, I’ll probably buy it and layer it with something new. I am also a blog stalker, and I constantly check what my favorite bloggers are buying and wearing.

CF: What is your typical go to outfit?

AP: My go-to outfit would be any type of leggings (leather preferably) with some cute shoes and a bunch of layers on top. I always try to add some depth to my outfit by adding statement jewelry or cool jackets and cardigans.

CF: Who are some of your favorite fashion designers or brands and why?

AP: Some of my favorite brands are American Rag, Free People and Top Shop. I like the way these brands are all different than what you see in you average department store. I also am very attracted to earthy tones and organic textures which are carried in most of these brands. I’m obsessed with Jeffrey Campbell and his everlasting unique touches on all of his shoe designs.

CF: What do you hope to do in the fashion industry after you graduate?

AP: After graduation I want to spend my time traveling and filling myself with as much inspiration as I can, while working with companies in fashion buying and fashion marketing. I hope my fresh ideas will push the companies I work for. My goal is to be a stylist for GQ magazine. I love men’s fashion and think I could really excel in a position like that.

How To: To incorporate this Fashionista’s ensemble, start of with a side slit maxi skirt paired with a knit sweater. If it’s cold out, throw on a colored cardigan or a jean jacket. Don’t forget to accessorize with some big jewelry and wedge booties.
