Fashionista Spotlight

As most of you are eagerly anticipating warmer weather, there’s still a bit more of winter left to get through. However, with the help of a great coat, you should be set for walking out in the chilly air from class to class. I spotted this Fashionista on campus wearing a fantastic camel-coloured coat, paired with a pair of burnt orange tights and a warm black sweater. I love how her outfit is minimal, cool and effortlessly sophisticated.

Name: Amy McNeil

Major: Fashion Communications

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?

Amy McNeil: Comfortable, yet put together.

CF: What are some of your wardrobe staples?

AM: Currently, I wear a black turtleneck underneath 70% of my outfits.

CF: Any fashion resolutions for 2013?

AM: Wear more casual dresses!

CF: Whose closet would you love to raid? Why?

AM: Blake Lively all the way. She is so cleverly put together, even while taking risks.

CF: If money weren’t an issue, what one item would you love to splurge on?

AM: A long, lacy Elie Saab gown, and I’d wear it every day.

CF: What are some of your favourite trends this season?

AM: I’ve been going crazy with faux fur and oversized jackets this winter, but I’m really looking forward to some funky prints come spring.

How To: To create this chic and comfy outfit, start off by pairing a simple black top with a long beige coat. Take a break from your typical black leggings and try a different colour, such as burnt orange, like this Fashionista’s pair, or maroon. Keep your accessories simply black–from a warm toque to leather gloves to a pair of casual boots. Finish up with a stylish and functional tote bag for carrying around your campus necessities.
