FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Amber Mallery

Fashionista Spotlight

It was a beautiful fall day—partially cloudy, not too cold but not warm, and the air was free of any humidity that could ruin the day. The weather was exactly what Fashionistas/Fashionistos want in December, which explains why I ran into this Fashionista strutting our campus runway in between classes. She had her own style to show everyone, so I had to ask her a few questions.

Name: Amber Mallery

Major: Psychology/Public Relations

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?

AM: Well my shirt’s actually from Goodwill. It was a dress that I cut into a shirt. My skirt is just from Charlotte Rouse, and so are my shoes. My coat is from GUESS and my purse is from China. I got it from eBay. That’s where I got this ring, too.

CF: What inspires your style?

AM: I just don’t like pants and I like to be tall. I love big. I love costume jewelry, big rings, big necklaces, big shoulder pads, big heels. The bigger the better. A lot of people say I’m like Lady Gaga, but I don’t see myself like her. I don’t really see myself as a trendsetter either. I just kind of get dressed. I don’t even like clothes, but I put them on.

CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?

AM: Probably these glasses, but if we’re talking clothing-wise, it would either be my holographic dress or my leather dress. I only wear dresses or skirts.

CF: Where did you get those dresses from?

AM: The holographic dress I got from Etsy and it was really expensive, but it’s a good investment. I got the faux leather dress off of Esty, too. They’re actually from the same person.

How To: Although this Fashionista doesn’t even like clothing, her style is elegant and unique. Her bohemian style is all about the dark colors. Black booties, black leggings and a black skirt create a beautiful bottom half to your outfit. It’s a flattering look that is very business-chic. Her blue top was tailored into a shirt, but search for a blouse colorful enough to catch some attention. A vibrant shirt will complement any big costume jewelry you decide to wear with this outfit. You can find so much costume jewelry online it isn’t even funny. A black peacoat is the perfect finishing touch to go with her dark ensemble. Keep the tones simple, but wear that piece that will really catch the eyes of students who pass by.
