Floral Dr. Martens, denim and flannel? Yes, please. I am obsessed with the way this Fashionista pulled together her outfit with a few grungy elements and a whole lot of personal style. I love the mismatched patterns and the muted color palettes she incorporated into this look. Read on to hear what she has to say about dressing for concerts and finding fashion inspiration in her favorite musical artists.
Name: Amanda Tran
Major: Medical Anthropology/Global Health and Music
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Amanda Tran: My favorite denim jacket, a thrifted Dickies flannel, Urban Outfitters tee and my go-to Docs.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
AT: I would say that I am always concert-ready with my personal style. Whether it is a pick from my vast collection of band tees, pieces with DIY studs or mosh-able sneaks, I always like to keep it comfy and hipster-grunge.
CF: What are some trends that you really love right now?
AT: I always love anything floral or tribal print, whether it’s trending or not! The mint hue is making a strong comeback, and I am totally okay with that too.
CF: Do you have items in your closet that you would recommend college students invest in? Something they can wear during every season?
AT: I think everyone should own a good denim jacket. The one I’m wearing right now can literally be matched with anything and is worn at least throughout 85 percent of the year.
CF: Where do you get fashion ideas? Whose style do you love?
AT: I look forward to new issues of Nylon and Urban Outfitter’s seasonal ads. They always have great offbeat looks going. My biggest fashion influences are also some of my biggest musical influences: Hayley of Paramore, Gwen of No Doubt, Debbie of Blondie and Demi Lovato. I love that they all have their own unique twists on the rocker-vibe.
How To: The things I love most about this Fashionista’s outfit include her denim jacket, flannel shirt tied around her waist and, of course, her Dr. Martens. I recommend checking out Urban Outfitters for a great jean jacket like this one. Also, here are the exact boots from the outfit above. Lastly, the best places to find unique T-shirts are always thrift stores—there’s nothing like having a cool shirt that no one else around you is wearing.
