Finally, a Fashionista who recognized the hand in hand connection between fashion and music. With feathers in her ears and boots on her feet, this Fashionista was ready to hop in the car and head to a festival. The red lipstick was the cherry on top of her indie style. Her statement dress was an eye-catcher with its unique pattern paired with her faded cowboy boots, which added a vintage element. The brown lens aviators added yet another kind of style that made the outfit a beautiful, chaotic arrangement of patterns, colors and styles. All in all, the Fashionista’s adventurous personality perfectly matched with her risky and lawless style. In fact, this Fashionista didn’t dress like she was breaking the rules; she dressed like she made the rules of fashion from head to toe.
Her outlook on fashion added a whole other reason why I loved her overall personality. When people look at fashion as an art, it truly does take their appearance to a whole new level. She looked more like an elegant piece of artwork than just another woman walking down the street. I think it’s majestic when someone can completely transform herself into the person she wants to be perceived as. Fashion truly is an art form. Starting with a blank canvas, you can turn something already beautiful into something that you can call your own.
Name: Amanda Rummel
Major: Holistic Science
CollegeFashionista: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
Amanda Rummel: Festivals. The environment and the people in it inspire me.
CF: What are some of your favorite things to wear to festivals?
AR: I’m actually going shopping right now for a festival, but today I wore this because it’s comfortable and easy. Some of the stuff I really love to wear are psychedelic patterns, leggings, pants or onesies. I also love moccasins, hairpieces and feathers.
CF: Where are some of your favorite places to shop for those kind of things?
AR: I really mostly like to shop online. Warrior Within has a lot of hooded onesies that I love. Other than that, I love shopping in downtown Santa Cruz at local places like Sway. Also, Urban Outfitters is awesome for glasses.
CF: What are some of your favorite accessories to wear?
AR: Definitely anything with feathers. I really like feather earrings. I also like colored hair extensions and facial jewelery like my piercing.
CF: What kind of music festivals have you been going to this summer for inspiration?
AR: So far, nothing. But I will be heading to a festival in Oregon in a couple days. It’s mostly electronic, but I grew up on folk festivals.
CF: So, do you think music and fashion go hand in hand?
AR: Absolutely. I think art in general is a way of expression. That includes all different types of expression. Fashion is a part of that.
How To: With unique style, it’s hard to point in a direction of a store that has something exactly like what this Fashionista was wearing. My first suggestion would be to check out thrift stores for funky patterned dresses like this one. The cut of the dress complemented this Fashionista during her day out shopping. For a fun patterned dress, check out this one. The pattern is bold, perfect for pairing with boots like these by Jeffrey Campbell. The boots provide subtly accent the dress, which makes more of a statement for the overall outfit. As far as jewelry like this Fashionista’s earrings goes, check out these for an accessory that clashes yet still goes with the adventurous appeal of the outfit.
