Today’s Fashionista is living proof that you don’t have to slum it in order to survive finals week. While I’m willing to cut people some slack during what seems to be the most excruciating days of our college careers, that’s not to say these upcoming weeks are an excuse to dress like a dude. Giving us an opportunity to spend a little extra on coffee and to pass leggings off as pants, finals week doesn’t have to be that bad. In a pair of black leggings, a white sweatshirt and combat boots, this week’s Fashionista shows us that often times, less is more. Because of her unique backpack and shoes, she no longer has to worry about the simplicity of her outfit. So remember, next time you’re aiming for the frat shirt or hoodie, stop and think about who you could possibly run into at the library.
Name: Amanda Guillen
CollegeFashionista: Describe your style.
Amanda Guillen: My style is mostly comfortable and laid back; I don’t like to look like I’m going to the gym later or like I just rolled out of bed. I like to keep it bohemian with bracelets and flowy crop tops during the day but when I go out at night, I wear a lot of black and like to look and feel bad. Lately though, I’ve become a bit more boyish adding snapbacks, sneakers and plaid to my closet.
CF: Who or what inspires that style?
AG: I wouldn’t say one person, designer or whatever really influences my style. I grew up a dancer and dancers are always on their style game. Even when going to practice we are always wearing the trendiest most eclectic styles while still giving off that “I don’t care” vibe. I also appreciate Khloe Kardashian’s sense of style. Random, I know.
CF: Where do you shop?
AG: Anywhere really. I love going to like T.J.Maxx or Marshalls and finding really cute key pieces for cheap. BCBGeneration fits me really well so I love them but Forever 21, CottonOn and the BP section at Nordstrom are regular places I shop.
CF: How would you turn this into a night look?
AG: I’ve actually worn this as a night look before. I have these fringe Boutique 9 booties that are black suede with a matching black suede fringe clutch. I then add some gold bracelets and heavy eyeliner with neutral eyeshadow and maybe a black infinity scarf if it’s cold.
How To: To incorporate a look like this into your wardrobe, you don’t have to stray too far. Aim for an oversized sweatshirt or T-shirt and pair it with leggings. Since the outfit itself is simple, feel free to add some flare to it with a more unique pair of leggings. To top off the look, wear a pair of trendy boots and a funky backpack to give your comfy outfit the edge it needs.
