Today’s Fashionista is sporting a classic outfit with accessories that completely amp it up. My friends can attest to the fact that I love oversized tops and they look even better with a playful belt. I love how this Fashionista incorporates pattern, color, cutout jaguar earrings and, my favorite, an oversized button-down, into a look that is perfect for class, a lunch date or a meeting with a professor. Although she combines eye-catching accessories and a bold top, she maintains a balance with her light colored bottoms and nude flats.

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style in three words?
Alithia Berkeley: I would describe my style as chic, bold and playful.
CF: Who or what inspires your style?
AB: I think my style is inspired by my personality and mood. One day I may wake up and I’ll feel like wearing a colorful printed dress and my outfit will be super flirty and playful. The next day I could be dressed head to toe in black with a sick leather jacket. It’s all about being comfortable and not limiting myself to only dressing in one particular way. My mood and my personality are complex and my style definitely gives me a platform to express myself freely. Most importantly, as long as I feel like I’m wearing the clothes and the clothes aren’t wearing me, l will always feel confident.
CF: How do you take summer clothes and make them work for fall?
AB: Fall is all about layering and accessories! You can throw a chunky sweater over your favorite summer dress. Add a pair of cool printed tights to your boots. Blazers, cardigans and leather jackets are a must. Big accessories like earrings, necklaces and cowl-neck scarves will funk up any outfit. Whether it’s a belt, bright lipstick or cool shoes, don’t be afraid to add a pop of color to your outfit to keep the winter blues away.
CF: If you could fill your closet with clothes from any decade, which would it be and why?
AB: It would have to be the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Everyone was experimenting with their styles. Bianca Jagger was wearing gorgeous tailored two-piece suits that had an androgynous feel but were still feminine and chic. In the late ‘60s, Brigitte Bardot wore outfits that were to die for, like her high-waisted shorts and big hats. It was an era of bold prints and accessories; there was a fluidity and freedom in fashion. You could have a glam rock style or a boho hippie vibe.
How To: This Fashionista’s outfit is all about the amazing accessories. So first, find a colorful belt and playful earrings. Since the temperatures are starting to drop, cinch your belt over an oversized button-down, your go-to skinny jeans and a sweater. Top it off with a simple tote bag and neutral toned flats for a perfect daytime look.
