Although I admit I have yet to work in retail, I love how many stores allow their employees to expose their personal style without a set uniform. You may have to incorporate pieces from the store into your look, but the way in which you do expresses your individuality. While shopping in francesca’s I spotted this Fashionista sporting a perfect summer outfit that successfully blends her own fashion taste with the store’s style expectations.
Name: Alexandra Magallanes
Major: Fashion Merchandising
CollegeFashionista: What inspires your look?
Alexandra Magallanes: Every time we come in here [francesca’s] we have to wear springy colors, so I kind of did that. But I kind of like dark colors too so I try to mix and match it—and I like color-blocking.
CF: What fashion trend are you most looking forward to this summer?
AM: I really like neon colors, bright colors; so I’m really excited for bathing suits that are those colors because every time I get really tan I like how it stands out. I’m excited for the bikinis.
CF: Is there a beauty trend that you’re excited for?
AM: Um, no not really. I was going to dye my hair; I wanted to add some color down here [to the ends], maybe like some strands of purple just to stand out with bright colors, but that would be about it.
CF: Describe your summer style.
AM: Lots of cut-off shorts, crop tops and layering necklaces—lots of rings as well.
How To: This Fashionista’s look embodies both bold and sweet elements creating a tough, feminine ensemble. Her Steve Madden lace-up boots contrast with the delicate lace and sheer fabric from her dress. She complements the black boots with a heather gray infinity scarf and adds a hint of color with her pastel tulip nails. To emulate this look, pair a girly dress or skirt with lace with some combat boots or a pair of chic, studded sandals—this will help mute the feminine vibe. Accessorize with jewelry, or a scarf like this Fashionista, and you’re set.
