This week’s Fashionista is in my fashion design studio class. I admired how dressed up she was at 8:30 in the morning for a six hour long class. Her outfit is one that many can take inspiration from. Going for a monochromatic look, especially in black, is an easy way to look super chic on an early fall day.
Name: Aidan Weiss
Major: Fashion Design
CollegeFashionista: What got you into fashion design?
Aidan Weiss: My mom was a costume designer so she got me into sewing and knitting when I was younger. It always fascinated me as a child. I’m majoring in fashion design and am mostly interested in menswear design. Fashion design was a hidden passion of mine that didn’t come out until late high school and college.
CF: Where did you get the pieces in your look?
AW: My leggings are from H&M, my bodycon dress is from American Apparel, my shoes are from a local consignment store called Buffalo Exchange and my button-down is from Retrospect which is a thrift store on South St. in Philadelphia.
CF: Do you do a lot of thrift shopping?
AW: When I have the chance, but I do more vintage shopping. I’m a big fan of vintage clothing.
CF: What is your favorite piece of clothing that you own?
AW: My black, peter pan collared button-down J.Crew jacket. I only wear it around November and December and for special occasions.
CF: Do you have a favorite designer?
AW: Yves Saint Laurent, Acne, Dior (their old dresses) and Ralph Lauren for men.
How To: Shop for pieces in one color, like black, to achieve a look like this Fashionista’s. Here’s a little black dress which is great to layer in a monochromatic outfit because the fabric has some sheen which adds interest. Monochromatic looks don’t have to be boring. Layer with this printed button-down shirt which takes a more modern and chic twist on fall’s favorite flannel. To complete this look, pair with these sheer thigh high tights and black ankle boots or kitten heels.
