Fashionista Spotlight

For Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City, her weakness was designer shoes. Mine, on the other hand, is sweaters. Like her shoe collection, my array of sweaters varies in color, fit, weight and style. Especially during this time of year, it is the perfect item to create a relaxed yet polished ensemble for class.

This Fashionista looks extra comfy-chic pulling off the oversized sweater look. For the past few seasons, designers such as Burberry and Sonia Rykiel have been warming up to the baggy, grandpa sweater look and layering it over lighter pieces. By throwing her cable knit sweater over a floral tank and leggings, this Fashionista is guaranteed to avoid the chills on the way to class and looks fashion-savvy doing so. She also adds fun-colored Keds that will make walking on cool fall days even more bearable.

Name: Ada Huang

Major: Liberal Arts, Undecided

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?

Ada Huang: I am wearing a floral tank top from Forever 21, a chunky cardigan from H&M, black leggings from Forever 21 and Keds.

CF: Where do you usually shop?

AH: I usually shop at Forever 21, H&M, American Eagle Outfitters, Urban Outfitters and sometimes Brandy Melville or Free People. I often shop in a lot of places so I am able to mix and match pieces to fit my style for the day.

CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?

AH: I definitely want to say it is my chunky cardigan. The oversized fisherman style is such a hit right now. It pulls everything together and gives your outfit a relaxed look for any occasion.

CF: What inspires your style?

AH: I find myself pairing items together that people may not consider doing. For example, I would wear an edgy, print crop top with a pleated skirt for a preppy finish. To me, creating looks like that give your ensembles individual character.

CF: What is the trend you are digging this fall?

AH: I would narrow the boots style to just ankle boots that can actually go with any look. One pair of boots can be easily rocked in a variety of styles, from pairing them with some casual leggings to creating some rocker edge to a girly dress.

CF: What are some staples in your fall wardrobe?

AH: I will be wearing a lot of comfy sweaters, skinny jeans, leggings and statement jewelry. Basically, I am looking to wear things that can be used for many different looks and that will allow me to feel comfy and appear put together during the colder seasons.

How To: Who needs a snuggle buddy this season when you can invest in a cozy oversized sweater? Layer it over a floral top and a pair of leggings. Add some fashionable yet functional sneakers to stride in style.
