Today’s Fashionista is not only an aspiring fashion designer but a veteran when it comes to thrift shopping. As I was heading to the computer lab, I noticed this beauty with an ensemble that gave off that ’90s vibe and I just had to get scoop on what inspired her style.
Name: Acacia Miller
Major: Fine Arts
CollegeFashionista: Tell me about what you are wearing.
Acacia Miller: I got this button-down shirt from Goodwill and these are some seven dollar leggings from Wal-Mart. The earrings are a gift from a friend and the bracelet came from Charlotte Russe. I got this necklace from Body Central and I got these boots from Rue 21.
CF: Do you currently have an obsession over anything?
AM: Yes, I love prints! If you were to look at my closet, it’s filled with nothing but vibrant prints and bold colors. I’m into the ’90s look with different patterns. I just can’t go without buying items with prints on them. I have friends who tell me I have enough items with prints on them but if I were to be simple then it wouldn’t be true to who I am.
CF: What has been your recent purchase?
AM: I recently purchased multiple ’90s jackets that came with the jumpsuits with patterns on them. One of my favorite finds was a jacket with the embellishments and floral designs on it—I just thought it was so retro.
CF: Who is your favorite designer and why?
AM: Betsey Johnson is my favorite designer because she has a very unique style that is different. She has gone outside those boundaries and she is my inspiration because she is an original.
CF: Do you have any advice you would like to share for our Fashionista/os out there?
AM: I’m always telling people to not be afraid to go outside their boundaries. Don’t be scared to do anything and don’t care about what anybody thinks. If you are comfortable with it then do it for yourself!
CF: What are your career goal aspirations?
AM: I would love to work for a magazine or have my own clothing line. I’m very optimistic and I feel like anything could happen. I would just love to be somewhere within the fashion industry even if I were a vendor or being in the runway life. Any opportunities that come my way will expand my horizons within the fashion industry and I will feel accomplished. I am artistic individual and I want to share that with the world. I want to leave a footprint and be like “I created this!”
How To: The key in recreating this Fashionista’s look is to find a button-down shirt with your favorite print—preferably colorful and vibrant. Then, add your comfy tights and boots to the mix according to the color scheme you are going for. Take this Fashionista’s advice and go outside your boundaries!
