FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Abby May

Fashionista Spotlight

You may have heard the saying, “Without the bad days, we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the good.” Cliché as it may be, it’s true. If Mother Nature hadn’t handed us the most brutal of winters, the spectacular spring we’ve been having wouldn’t seem quite as sweet. After being cooped up in parkas and mittens all winter, none of us can wait to get out and show off the latest warm weather trends. Inspired by a gorgeous April morning, this Fashionista put together a fun and colorful outfit, striking the perfect balance between girly and boho.

Name: Abby May

Major: Biopsychology, Cognition and Neuroscience with a minor in International Studies

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What is your favorite thing about spring fashion?

Abby May: I love wearing bright colors and patterns, but the best thing about spring fashion is being able to go outside without being bundled up in heavy coats and hats. In nice weather, I tend to wear loose, comfortable clothing that fits my style more closely than big sweaters and boots!

CF: How has college life impacted your personal style?

AM: To me, college means always being rushed and on-the-go. Sometimes, I’ll have an early class but have to look put-together enough to make it to dinner with friends later without running home to change. For days like those, I always have to plan ahead. My style has to be able to fit under any circumstances, so owning a variety of clothing choices is a must!

CF: If you could have any celebrity’s closet, whose would it be and why?

AM: I actually think Vanessa Hudgens’s style is to die for. I promise she’s come a long way since High School Musical! She has great boho style and is an expert at wearing prints and mixing textures. She always looks springy, comfortable and adorable!

CF: Where are your favorite places to shop around campus and why?

AM: Ann Arbor is great about having tons of stores that are perfect for the college budget. Of course, Urban Outfitters is always a convenient, reliable stop, but there are actually TONS of small vintage stores around Ann Arbor that are an affordable way to shop for unique styles if you have some time to dig through them.

How To: If you’re aiming for this Fashionista’s colorful, boho look, start your outfit off with a floral kimono. Layer it over either a simple, cotton racerback or a delicate lace tank top like this Fashionista wore. For your legs, go for either a pair of colored skinny jeans or some classic, high-waisted denim shorts. On your feet, you can’t go wrong with a traditional pair of patent leather T-strap flats. Finish everything off with a statement accessory and you’re all set!
