Ask any U of M student what the biggest event on campus is and you will most likely get the same answer: the football games. Weekends during the fall at Michigan are definitely focused around the football games each Saturday; during any home game, you will find seas of maize and blue throughout Ann Arbor. With a newly expanded stadium and improvement in the Michigan football team, students are once again flaunting their school pride.
One of my favorite parts of football games at UofM is witnessing this overwhelming school pride, especially how it is portrayed through clothing choice. Most members of the crowd are decked out in everything from maize student football T-shirts and jerseys, to body paint and everything in between you could imagine. While showing up in maize is sufficient, I always enjoy seeing how fans put a unique twist on their blue and maize game day ensembles. For example, I caught sight of this Fashionisto as I was leaving the stadium after the UMass victory. He pairs the typical football jersey and jeans with a yellow blazer and navy bowtie with the Michigan – M – logo repeating across. Even though the blazer is a softer yellow, rather than the usual bright maize color seen among the stands, it still works for this look because of the maize in the football jersey. On the other hand, the bowtie adds an interesting and playful twist to the outfit. I hope this look inspires other U of M Fashionistas and Fashionistos to show off their school spirit in fresh, remarkable ways. There are numerous stores throughout Ann Arbor that sell all types of Michigan apparel, like the MDen, and Michigan Book and Supply. The football games are the perfect occasion to get really creative and extreme with your look, while representing how great it is to be a Wolverine.
