Fashion From Abroad

You know you've been in the U.K. too long when you start associating the word jacket with a potato instead of an article of clothing. This connection is most likely a testament to my love of food, so hopefully this Fashionista's outerwear choice has saved me a few pounds (both on my body and in my wallet) by reminding me of the garment for which the aformentioned treat (the jacket potato) was presumably named.

Cropped jackets with a rounded neckline have seen a huge surge in popularity lately, a trend that no doubt comes from their versatility. CollegeFashionista’s very own Amy Levin showed off her interpretation of the style with an embellished Isabel Marant version in this video for Refinery29, while this week’s Fashionista shows us how to tone down the very same style to easily fit into a low-key look.

The key to this look is the Fashionista's ability to marry a trend to a personal aesthetic. Her tight jeans, slouchy T-shirt and flatform sneakers all evoke a sporty vibe, so it’s important that her jacket remains within this style but elevates it from grungy gym-goer to chic shop-hopper. This Fashionista achieves her goal with aplomb, so be on the lookout for a jacket that speaks to your own personal style. Don’t allow the trend to dictate your style — the game of individuality has no rules except the ones you create yourself.
