FASHION FROM ABROAD: Glory Days

Fashion From Abroad

As I mentioned in last week's post, fall is my favorite time for fashion. Perhaps it's because this time of year evokes grade school memories of donning plaid and corduroys for a trip to the pumpkin patch and dragging my mother through J.C. Penney in search of the perfect sweater for class picture day (in retrospect, nothing much has changed, except now I drag her through H&M. She loves it). As soon as I spotted this week's Fashionista, I was immediately reminded of those glorious years. Sporting muted autumnal tones of pale plum and olive green splashed on simple garments like a jacket and tights, this Fashionista evokes a quirky, childlike vibe that takes me right back to the late '90s. In fact, I'm pretty sure I owned that exact zip-up back then.

So what makes this Fashionista infinitely chicer than I was during my glory days? Stellar accessories, which combine edgy (sharp gold cross earrings and a bold studded bag) and charming (a could-be-homemade scarf and basket weave shoes) styles to take the look out of heading-off-to-school territory. And very much unlike the fashion of my youth, this look can be easily updated if you plan on staying out past bedtime. For night, keep the base of the black skater dress and gold earrings and add an edgy leather-accented blazer, dark tights and a stellar pair of heels. Whether you're looking for an outfit to get you through the day or something more exciting for after dark, if you take this Fashionista's advice, you're sure to get an A in fall style.
