I am always impressed with entrepreneurs who seem to do it all—and do it all well. Hannah Bronfman is one of those women. She is a DJ, restauranteur, co-creator of a sustainable lifestyle brand and, most recently, the co-founder of the mobile app, Beautified. The app allows spas and salons to fill unsold, last minute appointments—genius for girls on the go, like many CollegeFashionistas and Bronfman herself. We caught up with the multi-talented and über fashionable Bronfman as she discussed her journey to her latest endeavor.
CollegeFashionista: Where did you attend college? What was your major?
Hannah Bronfman: I went to Bard College where I received my Bachelor’s in Fine Arts.
CF: Tell us a little bit about Beautified. Where did the idea for the company come from?
HB: As someone always on the go, I could never make salon appointments far in advance. My co-founders, Annie Evans and Peter Hananel and I thought it would be really useful to have a space New Yorkers could go to book last minute appointments. This way, people could have access to the services they need at their ultimate convenience.
CF: Have you always been interested in beauty? When did you decide you wanted to try out a new venture in that direction?
HB: I have always been interested in beauty. Since I have entered the space about a year ago as an entrepreneur, I wanted to explore it as much as possible. I’ve learned that it’s seemingly endless—there are so many aspects to it I never new existed!
CF: What is it like for you being a young entrepreneur? Any advice for students looking to branch out on their own?
HB: Busy to say the least! It has been a learn-as-you-go experience. No one tells you half the stuff that may come up or can go wrong. You have to be adaptive and deal with things as they arise. Advice to students looking to be entrepreneurs would be to not give up! Things might get hard but you’ve got to learn how to trouble shoot! An entrepreneur sometimes means wearing many different hats so learn how to adapt your skill set.
CF: You’re so young yet you’ve already accomplished so much! Any new projects we should be looking out for from you in the future?
HB: Definitely stay tuned for Beautified’s Westward expansion. Next stop L.A., San Francisco and DC!
CF: How has growing up in New York influenced your personal style?
HB: Living in New York has shown me that there are no limits when it comes to clothing and style. Once you think you’re going outside the box, all you have to do is walk down the street to be reminded that their are people doing something way more extreme.
CF: What fall trends (whether beauty or fashion… or both!) are you most looking forward to?
HB: Looking forward to rocking my newest hair accessory: my gray-tipped halo.
CF: What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
HB: The best advice I’ve ever been given is kill ‘em with kindness.
