FASHION FROM ABROAD: Winter Down South

This winter break I found myself surrounded by family in Atlanta, GA. While in the city, it seemed the fashion gods had answered my prayers and I was able to emerge myself into what seemed like a new shopping center or mall each day. The shops in Buckhead is a recently developed area in Atlanta and a full package experience for fashion and food lovers—picture four blocks of fabulous upscale retailers and some of the best foods you will ever taste and there you have it. It was there that I found inspo.

Winters in the south are far from harsh and most of my days in Atlanta included a high of 65 degrees and a jacket or coat on standby for when evening settled in. I was grabbing lunch at the shops one day when I ran into this Fashionista who was a perfect example of how to dress for winter in the south while staying true to her own eclectic, vintage style.

Her layering of a simple slip top and thrifted vintage T-shirt speaks to one of the most beloved ’90s trends and gives her look some soul against the neutrals. She avoided any winter chill by throwing on an oversized knit sweater. Her sweater is an easy and versatile piece that any on-the-go Fashionista would appreciate in her wardrobe. On the bottom she chose a denim skirt and over-the-knee boots that give her bare legs just enough warmth. A pair of over-the-knee boots can transform almost any look into an acceptable fall or winter outfit. They also allow you to keep some of those favorite warm weather pieces like a jean skirt around all year long. She accessorized and completed her look with a black, everyday vintage coach bag and layered chokers.
