Summer in Rome is hot; it’s common knowledge to native and tourist alike. Tourists walk around with their little battery-powered fans, and most resort to shorts and sneakers. Privy natives tend to stay holed up with their air conditioning. The heat is, however, no excuse to not look fab, something that this Fashionista knew well. I found her walking the streets of Trastevere in the early afternoon as I was on my way to take coffee at one of my favorite coffee shops.
Her look seemed to me reminiscent of Alexa Chung, one of my all-time favorite fashion idols. Like Chung’s style, the look was simple and chic with a neutral color and small details to keep things interesting.
One such detail I really enjoyed in the Fashionista’s look was the gold collar. Collars with studs and gilded corners are trending lately and are easy ways to add some edge to a straight-laced dress or blouse.
The Fashionista’s Marc Jacobs cross-body bag added an extra dose of class. The small bag is a must-have for traveling in Rome, where pickpockets are plenty. It is big enough for the necessities — phone, a few euros and bus tickets — but small enough to be secure.
A feature of the look which I was slightly obsessed with were the Fashionista’s studded loafers. Loafers are a favorite staple of mine because they have the comfort factor of flats or tennis shoes but also a sense of class. They can be worn with jeans to make a casual look a little dressier or as the perfect complement to a shirtdress as you run out the door. The studded trend has taken every facet of the fashion world by storm, and I could not be more pleased.
The gold accents throughout the ensemble gave the timeless, Jackie Kennedy Onassis inspired look a hint of modern edge and the balance that every Fashionista strives for.
