FASHION FROM ABROAD: Staying Chic Through Cold Weather

January 18th, 2017 at 2:00am

It can be difficult to dress creatively when all we want to do is cuddle up and hide from the cold, but this Fashionista I spotted in downtown Chicago caught my eye. This Fashionista managed to keep warm by adding tights and a denim button-down to her dress. These extra pieces help layer the outfit to keep warm under a coat and walk around outside in the Chicago winter without taking away from the dress itself. Stylish winter-friendly footwear can be hard to find, but her sleek Chelsea boots are also made of a waterproof material that are perfect for the snow and rain, as well as they are easy to clean.

This Fashionista’s ensemble is sophisticated yet playful. The stripes on her ribbed bodycon dress contrast nicely with the polka dots on her ascot which adds some movement to the look. The ascot’s red color matches the red accents on her silver jewelry, and it livens up the outfit with a pop of color that even complement her lipstick. In addition, her denim shirt dresses down her look and makes it much more versatile. Take off the denim, and it instantly becomes appropriate for going out at night. Lastly, her simple tote ties the outfit together. The brown leather details go well with the colors of her dress and button-down, while the black bag itself matches perfectly with her shoes and tights that allow the other colors of the look to pop against their dark hue.

Many people shy away from dresses and skirts once it gets below 60 degrees, but I say extra layers can keep us warm and expand our winter wardrobes. As a result, this gives us more freedom with what we wear during the coldest month of winter.
